Kybella
What is Kybella?
Submental fullness or double chin often disrupts the facial balance and results in an aged and heavier look. This can affect men and women of all ages and is caused by a variety of issues including weight gain, genetics, and natural aging. Unfortunately, double chins are often extremely resistant to diet and exercise.
Kybella contains a naturally occurring molecule called deoxycholic acid which specifically targets and dissolves fat cells. This is administered through a series of small injections in areas of submental fullness caused by excess fat. These injections are a non-surgical option to reduce the double chin and improve the appearance of your neck.
Previously, only surgical procedures such as liposuction or neck surgery were used to treat this troublesome condition.
Benefits of Kybella
The fat-reducing injection offers several benefits as a non-surgical solution for reducing submental fullness and improving the appearance of the chin and neck area:
Non-surgical
The injectable treatment eliminates the need for invasive procedures such as liposuction or neck surgery. It offers a non-surgical alternative for individuals seeking to address submental fullness and improve their chin profile.
Permanent fat reduction
Deoxycholic acid, a naturally occurring molecule, breaks down and destroys fat cells in the treatment area. Once destroyed, these fat cells can no longer accumulate or store fat, leading to permanent reduction in submental fat and a more defined jawline.
Customizable treatment
Treatments are tailored to each individual’s unique needs and aesthetic goals. The number of injections and treatment sessions can be adjusted to achieve the desired results, providing personalized treatment plans for optimal outcomes.
Minimal downtime
Unlike surgical procedures, these treatments typically involve minimal downtime or recovery. Most patients can resume their normal activities immediately after treatment, making it a convenient option for individuals with busy lifestyles.
Natural-looking results
The treatment gradually reduces submental fat over several weeks to months, allowing for a gradual improvement in the chin and neck contour. This gradual process helps ensure natural-looking results that blend seamlessly with the surrounding facial features.
What Can Be Treated with Kybella?
Kybella is primarily used to treat submental fullness, commonly referred to as a “double chin.” This non-surgical injectable treatment is specifically designed to reduce excess fat under the chin and improve the chin and neck profile. Kybella can effectively address the following concerns:
- Double chin: Targets and permanently destroys fat cells in the submental area, resulting in a more defined jawline and a reduction in the appearance of a double chin.
- Submental fat: Excess fat deposits under the chin that contribute to a less defined jawline and a heavier overall facial appearance can be effectively treated.
It’s important to note that this cosmetic procedure is specifically indicated for treating submental fullness and is not intended for use in other areas of the body. Additionally, injections do not address excess or loose skin in the submental area; it targets only fat cells.
Therefore, individuals with concerns about loose skin may require additional treatments or complementary procedures to achieve their desired results.
What to Expect During Treatment
Kybella is administered through multiple small injections under the chin during a 20 to 30-minute session. The exact number of injections is determined by the treatment area and your desired aesthetic goals.
You may feel a slight pinch during treatment but for those with sensitive skin or concerns about discomfort, a topical anesthetic or ice pack may improve comfort. There is minimal downtime or recovery, and you can resume normal activities immediately after treatment. You may experience some swelling, bruising, or numbness under your chin following treatment. These effects should start to fade within a few days of treatment.
Multiple treatments are required, given one month apart. It may take two or more treatments to see noticeable improvement. The improved neck profile and youthful appearance should last as the treatment permanently dissolves the fat cells.
Am I a Good Candidate for Kybella?
Kybella is an ideal treatment option for individuals who are bothered by the appearance of submental fullness and desire a more defined jawline. With this FDA-approved treatment, you can achieve the sculpted jawline you desire without the need for additional surgeries.
While suited for treating stubborn fat, it’s important to note this is not a treatment for weight loss or a replacement for a healthy lifestyle.
During your consultation, Dr. Hahn will discuss your medical history and medical conditions you may have alongside your aesthetic goals to determine if treatment is right for you.
