Rhinoplasty
What is Rhinoplasty?
Rhinoplasty, often called a nose job, is a surgical procedure performed to enhance the nose’s appearance. The nose is composed of intricately connected bony and cartilaginous structures.
Rhinoplasty in Baltimore reshapes or augments these nasal bone structures for cosmetic reasons such as straightening the nasal dorsum to create a nose that appears natural and balanced with the rest of the face. The nose also serves an important function in respiration and changes to the nose through injuries or accidents can result in impaired breathing.
Rhinoplasty in Baltimore may provide lasting relief to your nasal obstruction by correcting the anatomic defects such as septal deviations in the nasal framework that are affecting your breathing.
What are the Benefits of Rhinoplasty?
The cosmetic procedure can be performed to reshape the nose to improve the appearance and nasal breathing.
There are numerous benefits of rhinoplasty in Baltimore including:
Remove a prominent dorsal hump or nasal hump
Improve nasal symmetry
Correct a previously broken nose
Nasal tip refinement
Bring nasal shape into facial harmony
Narrow or improve profile of the nasal bridge
Straighten a crooked nose
Improve nasal breathing
Correct saddle nose deformity
Revision Rhinoplasty
Revision rhinoplasty, or secondary rhinoplasty, refers to surgical correction of any asymmetries or problems resulting from a previous rhinoplasty. Additionally, many patients seek revision rhinoplasty because their prior nasal surgery resulted in compromised nasal breathing, or reconstructive surgery is required.
The size and shape of the nose are closely related to its functional ability, and nasal obstruction is frequently encountered along with aesthetically displeasing results.
Functional Rhinoplasty
Nasal breathing can be affected by blockage of the nasal passage from the cartilaginous, bony, and soft tissue structures of the nose. Functional rhinoplasty is performed primarily to improve nasal respiration by addressing deviation of the nasal septum, narrowed nasal valves, or weakened nasal cartilage.
A complete examination of all of these factors will help determine if functional rhinoplasty in Baltimore will help your breathing concerns. Areas of weakness or obstruction can be augmented or restructured to greatly improve your nasal breathing. Functional rhinoplasty may be performed in conjunction with cosmetic rhinoplasty if additional changes to the nasal appearance are desired.
Non-Surgical Rhinoplasty
Non-surgical rhinoplasty in Baltimore, or liquid rhinoplasty, can be performed in certain circumstances. Small changes in nasal asymmetry or contour irregularities can be treated with non-surgical rhinoplasty techniques.
During your consultation, Dr. Hahn will walk you through the treatment and can evaluate if you are a candidate for non-surgical rhinoplasty or if nose surgery is best for you.
How is a Rhinoplasty Performed?
Rhinoplasty in Baltimore can be performed through a closed rhinoplasty or open approach. The technique used will depend on the extent of bony and cartilaginous work that will need to be performed.
The incisions for a closed approach are hidden within the nasal cavity. An open approach requires an additional small incision at the base of the nose which is often imperceptible when healed. Through these incisions, the cartilage and bone can be reshaped and supported to provide the desired aesthetic and functional results.
During your rhinoplasty in Baltimore, cartilage may be taken from within the septum, rib cage, or ear to shape the nose and provide additional support that reaches your aesthetic ideal.
Am I a Good Candidate for Rhinoplasty?
If you are unhappy with the shape or size of your nose, have difficulty breathing through your nose, or have concerns regarding your nasal appearance, you may be a good candidate for rhinoplasty surgery.
Most important are your personal goals and desires. If you think you are a good candidate, schedule a consultation with Dr. Samuel Hahn of Maryland Center for Facial Plastic Surgery.
During this consultation, Dr. Hahn will walk you through the treatment and explain the technique best suited for optimal surgical outcomes.

Downtime & Recovery
The recovery period can vary depending on the extent of the surgical technique and individual factors, but generally, you can expect some downtime after the surgery. You will have dressing and nasal packs inside the nostrils to stabilize your nose during the healing process. The nasal packing and cast will be removed after a week. Additionally, an antibiotic ointment will be given to use on your incisions.
During the first week following rhinoplasty, you may experience swelling, bruising, and nasal congestion. It is normal to feel some discomfort or pain during this time, but you will be provided with pain medication to help manage any discomfort hours after surgery to a week.
You should plan to take at least a week off from work or school to allow yourself time to rest and recover. It is important to avoid any strenuous activities such as heavy lifting or exercise for a few weeks after surgery to prevent any complications of rhinoplasty or damage to the healing tissues.
You must refrain from tobacco smoking to ensure proper healing of tissues and incisions.
How Much Does Rhinoplasty in Baltimore Cost?
There are numerous factors that go into the cost of the rhinoplasty procedure. This cost of rhinoplasty in Baltimore will depend on the amount of work to be done, if it is a revision procedure, if additional grafts need to be utilized, and if there is a functional or breathing component that insurance covers.
Anesthesia and facility fees are also a component of the total cost but may be partially covered by insurance. During your consultation with Dr. Hahn, we will provide you with a clear breakdown of costs and explain your payment options.
