Sculptra
What is Sculptra Aesthetic?
Sculptra Aesthetic is an injectable collagen stimulator from Galderma made with biocompatible, biodegradable material called poly-L-lactic acid, which is gradually and naturally absorbed by your body. Unlike hyaluronic acid fillers, Sculptra® stimulates natural collagen production in your skin to help restore the underlying structure and increase facial volume.
Sculptra in Baltimore can treat shallow to deep wrinkles and folds along smile lines or other areas of the face including the areas around the eyes, lips, cheeks, and neck. Sculptra in Baltimore works subtly and gradually over time for a more youthful-looking appearance.
Results appear gradually over the treatment regime (typically three injections over three to four months) and can last up to two years.
At Maryland Center for Facial Plastic Surgery, we offer Sculptra treatments to men and women in the Baltimore, Towson, and Columbia areas.
How Does Sculptra Aesthetic Work?
Sculptra in Baltimore is an innovative injectable treatment designed to address facial volume loss and the signs of aging. Unlike other dermal fillers that provide immediate results by adding volume directly to wrinkles and lines, Sculptra works gradually to stimulate the body’s natural collagen production, resulting in a more youthful and rejuvenated appearance over time.
The active ingredient in Sculptra in Baltimore is poly-L-lactic acid, a biocompatible and biodegradable synthetic material used in medical applications for decades. The gel-like substance is gradually absorbed by the body and stimulates collagen production when injected into the skin.
When Sculptra is injected into the targeted areas of the face, it acts as a “bio-stimulator,” triggering the body’s natural collagen production process. Collagen is a key protein responsible for maintaining skin firmness, elasticity, and volume. As collagen levels increase, the skin becomes thicker, firmer, and more youthful looking.
Benefits of Sculptra
Sculptra in Baltimore is a unique injectable treatment renowned for its ability to address facial volume loss and rejuvenate the skin’s appearance. Unlike other facial fillers, Sculptra does not provide immediate volume, rather, it stimulates the body’s own natural appearance to plump the skin over time.
Natural-Looking Results: Sculptra Aesthetic stimulates the body’s natural production of collagen, resulting in gradual and natural-looking rejuvenation. The increased collagen production helps restore volume to the skin, improving overall facial contours and providing a subtle yet noticeable enhancement that reaches your aesthetic goals.
Long-Lasting Effects: Unlike other dermal filler treatments that offer temporary results, the benefits of Sculptra Aesthetic can last up to two years or more, staving off facial aging. By promoting natural collagen growth within the skin, Sculptra provides long-lasting rejuvenation, reducing the need for frequent touch-up treatments.
Facial Volume Restoration: Over time, the face naturally loses volume, leading to sagging skin and a hollowed appearance. Sculptra Aesthetic addresses this volume loss by replenishing lost collagen and restoring youthful contours to the cheeks, temples, jawline, and other facial areas.
Improved Skin Texture: In addition to adding volume, Sculptra Aesthetic can also improve the facial skin’s texture and tone. The increased collagen production stimulated by Sculptra in Baltimore helps to improve skin quality, resulting in smoother, firmer, and more radiant skin without facial lines.
Versatile Treatment: Sculptra in Baltimore can be used to address a wide range of facial concerns, including the appearance of wrinkles, nasolabial folds, marionette lines, smile lines, and hollowed temples. Its versatility makes it an excellent option for comprehensive facial rejuvenation.
Gradual Rejuvenation: While some patients may prefer immediate results, others appreciate the gradual improvement provided by Sculptra Aesthetic. The gradual onset of results from the collagen stimulation allows for subtle and natural-looking rejuvenation, without the sudden change in appearance associated with some other treatments.

When Will I See Results with Sculptra?
One of the unique aspects of Sculptra in Baltimore is that results are not immediate, but rather gradual and natural-looking. After receiving a series of injections over several sessions, patients can start to see improvements in their facial contours and skin texture, resulting in an overall more youthful appearance.
Most patients typically notice a difference in appearance within a few weeks to a few months after their initial treatment sessions. As the body’s collagen production increases, patients will continue to see improvements in their skin’s volume, firmness, and overall texture. Although this facial injectable requires some patients, you can rest assured knowing this is an excellent choice for achieving long-term results and rejuvenating the facial appearance.
Ultimately, the full effects of Sculptra Aesthetic can take several months to fully manifest, as the newly produced collagen gradually enhances the skin over time. However, many patients find that the gradual nature of the results allows for a more natural-looking result that is gradually revealed after a series of treatments.

Downtime & Recovery
There is minimal downtime associated with Sculptra in Baltimore. You may experience mild redness and swelling at the injection sites; however, this will subside within days after treatment. Like other types of fillers, it is important to stop taking blood thinners days before treatment and the Sculptra should not be used on areas with skin sores.
Some temporary, less common side effects of Sculptra may include:
- Skin discoloration
- Fine lumps underneath the skin
Your medical history and facial structure will be assessed during your initial consultation to minimize any potential risks with the procedure.
What Can I Expect from Sculptra?
Sculptra® Aesthetic is administered in the office and the treatment is tailored to each patient’s specific needs. The injection is given through a syringe to localized areas on the face. Any pain or discomfort can be controlled with a topical anesthetic or numbing injection. You can expect results from Sculptra® to appear approximately one week after treatment.
However, the collagen restoration process is gradual, and your full results won’t be visible until a few months after treatment. Sculptra® is typically performed in a series of three to four treatments over the course of a few months. Sculptra® doesn’t require any downtime, so you can return to your normal activities immediately following treatment. For the greatest results, the average patient is recommended to have subsequent injections over the course of three to four months.
