Botox
What is Botox?
Years of smiling and expression are the hallmarks of a quality life, but these experiences should leave a mark on your memories – not your skin.
Wrinkles and lines are often the result of various factors in the natural aging process. Dynamic wrinkles, particularly noticeable around the forehead and eyes, are formed due to the repetitive contraction of facial muscles, resulting in an aged or fatigued appearance.
Fortunately, Botox® presents a solution to these concerns by effectively smoothing out these wrinkles, restoring a more youthful and radiant appearance. In the Baltimore, Towson, and Columbia areas, the Maryland Center for Facial Plastic Surgery is your trusted destination for expert aesthetic treatment!
Botox, short for Botulinum Toxin, is an FDA-approved injectable treatment containing botulinum toxin type A, a purified protein that temporarily paralyzes the muscles responsible for causing wrinkles and fine lines. By blocking nerve signals to these overactive muscles, Botox relaxes them, resulting in smoother, younger-looking skin.
With the skin prevented from folding, dynamic wrinkles such as frown lines and crow’s feet are softened, giving you a more refreshed and rejuvenated appearance while preventing facial wrinkles from becoming deep and static lines.
We also offer Dysport and Jeuveau as similar alternatives to Botox.
What Can Be Treated with Botox?
Botox injections are used to treat dynamic wrinkles caused by repetitive muscle movements and overactive, large muscles such as in the jaw to create a slimming effect.
Facial muscle strength can also be manipulated for cosmetic purposes to provide a lifting effect in areas like the brows.
The cosmetic treatment addresses a wide variety of concerns including:
- Glabellar lines
- Crow’s feet lines
- Bunny lines
- Smile lines
- Drooping eyelids and eyebrows
- Frown lines
- Dynamic wrinkles
- Facial lines
- Forehead wrinkles (frontalis muscle)
- Prevention of static wrinkles
- Large jaw muscles
- Nostril flaring
- Chin dimpling
- Gummy smile (lip flip)
- Overactive bladder
- Muscle spasms
- Headaches in adults
- Asymmetric smile
Downtime & Recovery
There is minimal downtime or recovery, and you can resume normal activities immediately after treatment, making Botox and other botulinum toxin type-A products ideal for quick rejuvenation without pain or missed days of work.
What Can I Expect During Treatment?
Injection of botulinum toxin is administered through a series of small injections to the treatment areas, directly into the targeted muscles.
The treatments are simple and quick with minimal discomfort. You may feel a slight pinch during treatment but for those with sensitive skin or concerns about discomfort, a topical anesthetic or ice pack may improve comfort.
Am I a Good Candidate for Botox?
Botulinum toxin injections are a great way to regain your youthful look. This quick and relatively painless treatment smooths lines and relaxes overactive muscles, giving you confidence in your appearance.

- are currently breastfeeding, pumping breast milk, or pregnant
- have had allergic reactions to other types of botulinum toxin
- have an active skin infection in the treatment area
- have a neuromuscular disorder or other nerve disorder such as Lou Gehrig’s disease
A medical professional will discuss your history of medical conditions and prescription medicine such as blood thinners, aspirin-like products, and muscle relaxants to avoid any adverse drug interactions and determine if the treatment is right for you.
