ARE THERE RISKS ASSOCIATED WITH PLASTIC SURGERY?

As with most medical procedures, there can be risks involved if the patient does not follow the doctor’s recommendations, or if the doctor isn’t properly trained. Dr. Samuel Hahn, MD, of Maryland Center for Facial Plastic Surgery, is board-certified and has years of experience performing the procedures we offer. Our staff is highly trained, and we communicate clearly with the patient to minimize any risks.

WHAT IS RECOVERY FROM PLASTIC SURGERY LIKE?

Your recovery experience will rely on which procedure is done. For most surgical procedures, there may be bruising, soreness, swelling, and scarring afterwards. Typically, someone will need to take you home from your procedure and look after you for a few days, as it is important to limit your physical activity after treatment. It is generally recommended to rest for at least a week before returning to work and other activities but will vary for each procedure.

WHAT KIND OF RESULTS CAN I EXPECT FROM PLASTIC SURGERY?

You can generally expect the results from your plastic surgery to be permanent. However, natural aging in the body may affect the results from some procedures, such as facelifts, as time goes on. At Maryland Center for Facial Plastic Surgery, our surgical techniques create natural-looking results you can enjoy for years.

HOW LONG DOES PLASTIC SURGERY TAKE? DOES IT HURT?

The length of plastic surgery procedures varies, depending on the specific procedure. They are typically performed within a few hours, although they will require extra time for recovery. Plastic surgery is a surprisingly comfortable experience, and patients will be under anesthesia throughout their procedure. Our anesthetic and surgical techniques enable us to provide a comfortable experience to our patients.

WHO IS A GOOD FIT FOR PLASTIC SURGERY?

Anyone who wants to change their appearance by adjusting facial features or improving the texture of the skin may benefit from plastic surgery. People who are self-conscious about any of their facial features, including the nose, mouth, chin, ears, and eyes, may be able to regain their confidence with a plastic surgery procedure. We work closely with every patient to refine their natural features, enhance their appearance, and address the signs of aging while preserving their identity.

WHAT’S THE DIFFERENCE BETWEEN COSMETIC AND RECONSTRUCTIVE SURGERY?

Plastic surgery is defined as surgery that alters or enhances structure. Cosmetic surgery is an elective procedure used to enhance a person’s appearance. These procedures are designed to adjust facial features or the appearance of the skin. Treatments like nose jobs and facelifts fall under this category.

Reconstructive surgery is performed to restore function or appearance to damaged facial features. In the event of an injury, these features can be impaired and require surgery to correct. Both forms of surgery use similar techniques and require a highly skilled surgeon. At Maryland Center for Facial Plastic Surgery, we offer both cosmetic and reconstructive procedures, performed by Dr. Samuel Hahn, MD.
